چکیده
Christof Koch [email protected] We describe two parallel analog VLSI architectures that integrate optical flow data obtained from arrays of elementary velocity sensors to estimate heading direction and time-to-contact. For heading direction computation, we performed simulations to evaluate the most important qualitative properties of the optical flow field and determine the best functional operators for the implementation of the architecture. For time-to-contact we exploited the divergence theorem to integrate data from all velocity sensors present in the architecture and average out possible errors.

Analog VLSI Architectures for Motion Processing: From Fundamental Limits to System Applications
We discuss some of the fundamental issues in the design of highly-parallel, dense, low-power motion sensors in analog VLSI. Since photoreceptor circuits are an integral part of all visual motion sensors, we discuss how the sizing of photosensitive areas can aaect the performance of such systems. We review the classic gradient and correlation algorithms and give a survey of analog motion-sensing...

Real-time vision-based vehicle navigation tasks are typically computationally intensive and significantly complex in terms of resources used. Moreover, mobile applications of navigation systems place severe constraints on their size and power consumption. These constraints can be satisfied by using parallel image processing architectures and parallel control algorithms implemented with analog V...

We introduce several di erent focal plane analog VLSI motion sensors developed in the past. We show how their pixel-parallel architecture can be used to extract low-dimensional information from a higher dimensional data set. As an example we present an algorithm and corresponding experiments to compute the focus of expansion, focus of contraction and the axis of rotation from natural visual inp...

A systolic serial multiplier for unsigned numbers is presented which operates without zero words inserted between successive data words, outputs the full product and has only one clock cycle latency.
The multiplier is based on a modified serial/parallel scheme with two adjacent multiplier cells. Systolic concept is a well-known means of intensive computational task through replication of fu...
